AbstractArchaeal tubulin-like cytoskeletal protein CetZ1 is required for rod-cell morphogenesis during the development of motile cells in the model archaeon Haloferax volcanii. It has been unknown whether CetZ1 or its paralogs contribute to motility solely through the effects of rod cell shape on swimming speed, or in other ways too.
