This year's Academy nominees reception and class photo event was an understandably muted affair. Due to the L.A. fires, the usual boozy lunch during the Oscars voting window-an annual showcase for enthusiastic, face-to-face politicking, and the occasional dog stunt-became a more casual cocktail hour on Tuesday night after voting closed, and before the individual branch dinners.

It's happening: After years of speculation, and polite urging from observers like me, Kathleen Kennedy has informed Disney, as well as friends and associates, that she will exit as Lucasfilm president by the end of the year, per three sources. Disney and Kennedy's personal publicist declined to comment. Not a huge shock, of course. Kennedy will be 72 in June, and the legendary movie producer will have run Lucasfilm for 13 years as George Lucas 's handpicked steward under Disney.

The temporary people have become permanent. That's really the only way to convey the shock around town today at the announcement that Barbara Broccoli and Michael G. Wilson have sold their birthright-the creative control over James Bond-to Amazon. Terms of the joint venture were not disclosed, and the $1 billion price that has been floated in the media isn't accurate, according to two sources familiar. But once the deal closes, Amazon is definitely writing a big check.

Bela Bajaria, who replaced Netflix's now-co-C.E.O. Ted Sarandos as chief content officer in early 2023, echoed that concern during a January presentation to the media at its Egyptian Theatre in Hollywood. It made me scratch my head a bit.
