The Longmont City Council continued its closely watched discussion about potential residency restrictions for sex offenders living in the city during its meeting Tuesday night. Ultimately, a majority of the council directed city staff to bring back a potential local law, or ordinance, that would apply to sexually violent predators, sexual offenders with multiple victims, sexual offenders with multiple offenses and sex offenders with felonies involving minors.

Firestone will host a recycling event from 8 a.m. to noon Saturday, April 19, at the town’s public works facility, 7500 County Road 20. Residents must register in advance to secure a spot and can do so online. Proof of residency such as a government ID showing a Firestone address is required for entry. Participants can enjoy services including document shredding, furniture donation and junk removal.

The Longmont City Council is scheduled to receive an update on data protection and privacy during its study session Tuesday. On Feb. 11, the council directed staff to give a future presentation about the city’s protocols for protecting data and ensuring that sensitive information is not shared inappropriately. At the time, the issue was raised by Councilmember Sean McCoy, who had concerns about the Department of Government Efficiency.
