Knock on wood, the IUP Crimson Hawks are having a pretty good spring on the football field. Nearing the end of their annual set of practices at Miller Stadium, the Crimson Hawks are making progress, a good four months before their season officially begins. kAm“x E9:?< :E :D W2 8@@5 DAC:?8X[” 9625 4@249 !2F= %@CE@C6==2 D2:5 27E6C AC24E:46 @? It wasn’t the introduction to IUP football that Randy Okungu and Quadir Jacobs expected, but the pair of former Millersville transfers are choosing to look at the silver lining of the 2024 season. Okungu, a 6-foot-1, 240-pound defensive end, played in only two games before an ankle injury ended his season. kAm“x 8@E 9FCE 62C=J @? :? The IUP Crimson Hawks have a new quarterback and a new offensive coordinator. Yet as spring drills enter their second week, there seems to be no awkward period of adjustment happening. Just ask Matthew Rueve, the transfer quarterback from Boston College by way of Division II Findlay University. kAm“xE’D =:<6 2 D62>=6DD EC2?D:E:@?[” #F6G6 D2:5 |@?52J 27E6C E96 rC:>D@? w2H<D’ 7:7E9 D6DD:@? @7 DAC:?8 AC24E:46] “(6 92G6 925 2 =@E @7 8C62E H@C< 36EH66? >6 2?5 E96 C646:G6CD[ >6 2?5 E96 @\=:?6] &D 2D 2?

With no games to play and no championships to chase, it’s natural to wonder the importance of spring football. IUP head coach Paul Tortorella hopes his Crimson Hawks use it as an opportunity. An opportunity to win a starting job, to move up the depth chart, to learn a new position, to prove they belong. Whatever it is each player has the opportunity to do, the ninth-year coach wants his players to take full advantage of it.

BLAIRSVILLE — Common sense tells you that if you want to beat River Valley, you’ve got to stop Ava Persichetti. But what doesn’t seem to be understood is that if you succeed in slowing down the area’s all-time leading scorer, there are still four other Panthers on the floor, and any and all of them can beat you. kAmx? 2 7:CDE\C@F?5 !xpp r=2DD ppp 8:C=D’ A=2J@77 82>6 uC:52J ?:89E[ %@H2?52 96=5 :ED @H?
