An Aiken County woman allegedly taped her son's hands over his mouth after he refused to eat. North Augusta Department of Public Safety officers arrested Ziqing Wu, 34, of North Augusta, on April 12 according to an Aiken County detention center booking report. At around 9 p.m., officers responded to a Chinese restaurant on Martintown Road. Wu had yelled at and occasionally struck her son for not eating, a woman told Sgt. K.H. Golden.

President Donald Trump's decision to impose tariffs on countries around the world could result in more automotive manufacturing moving to the United States, U.S. Sen. Lindsey Graham said. Graham told the Aiken Republican Club that he spoke with the CEOs of BMW, Mercedes and Volkswagen after Trump imposed a 25% tariff on vehicles made elsewhere but sold in the United States. All three companies operate manufacturing plants in the South. BMW makes X3, X4, X5, X6, X7 and XM SUVs at its Greer plant.

Aiken and South Aiken high schools have long been rivals in many sports but the schools' principals came together April 14 to ask for Aiken City Council's help. "We return this evening to speak to address the continuing issue of students using electronic cigarettes and possibly to seek your assistance possibly limiting student access to them," South Aiken Principal Sam Fuller and Aiken High School Principal Angela Moore said at the council's April 14 meeting.

A Georgia man that engaged in an April 11 standoff with law enforcement in Aiken County died. Dwayne Eduh, 24, of Covington, Ga., was pronounced dead at an Augusta Hospital on April 13, Aiken County Coroner Darryl Ables said. Eduh stood off with law enforcement at Interstate 20's mile marker 32, Ables continued. He was transported to the hospital with a self-inflected gunshot wound, Ables added. The standoff took place around 3:55 a.m., said Staff Sgt.
