I have been following Matthew Erman’s comic career for a while and watching it evolve over time. The themes that have been explored in each of his stories have related in one way or another in some ways but they all feel like they were leading up to Loving, Ohio. It gradually becomes clear, however, that the town of Loving is run by the Chorus, a new-agey cult whose beliefs range from past-life regression to the dangers of fluoride. The kids regard their parents’ fanaticism with adolescent skepticism: “All religions are cults.
