Trevor Zegras falls into the prestigious “forever linked to the Canadiens” category in the rumour mill. Wayne Simmons, Jaromir Jagr and Pierre-Luc Dubois are also on the list. I could name 1,000 others, but I have a life to live. Of course, there’s no telling whether Zegras will end up playing for the Canadiens. That said, the more time passes, the greater the chance that he’ll leave Anaheim one day. If that’s the case, it’s logical to assume that the Habs will want to take a chance.

Over the past few days, the Canadiens have consistently had three players on the sidelines: Juraj Slafkovsky, Kaiden Guhle and Justin Barron. All three were injured. But all three are clearly making progress. A few years ago, the Canadiens revamped their hockey staff. With the dismissal of Marc Bergevin, the club changed not only the people occupying the positions, but also the structure itself. There are now two managers in town, which was not the case before. Jeff Gorton came to town immediately, but then there was a GM position to fill. And among the many candidates interviewed was Patrick Roy…At least, that’s what everyone remembers… except for the man himself.

Today, two players who have been the talk of the town (not at all for the same reasons) are inching closer to a return to action. First, on the Colorado Avalanche side, Russian Valeri Nichushkin arrived in Denver, having been suspended without pay since May. As for the Vancouver Canucks, a long-awaited player has stepped forward for a return to action. Dakota Joshua, who was diagnosed with testicular cancer this summer, was skating this morning in a non-contact uniform.

The Laval Rocket was back in action this afternoon. The club, which played its first home game of the season last night, was back in front of its fans this afternoon. And if Joshua Roy stole the show yesterday, it was another of the Habs’ top prospects who caught the eye this afternoon: Owen Beck. The young center, who had yet to score in his first three games, was looking for his first professional goal. And this afternoon, he broke the ice: he hit the target.
