I have long wanted to write a piece on “Israel’s right to exist” since this phrase, which is repeated by some as though it were a sacred, inviolable mantra, seems to me to be a bunch of meaningful words strung together in a nonsensical way to assert something that doesn’t stand up to five minutes of rational scrutiny. These are the reasons I think this:States do not have rights. People have rights, and these rights generally exist to protect them from states.

The relentless torment of 2.3 million people- the displacement of 85% of them, the destruction of 1/3 of their homes, the denial to them of free access to food, water, medicine and electricity while 18,000 have been killed in bombing, most of them women and children- this is one of the greatest atrocities ever perpetuated in human history, one which will match the greatest horrors of WW2, if not surpass them.

A poem"Far too many Palestinians have been killed in this war, says US top diplomat. "So said the news the other day. "Far too many.""Have been killed."Less would have been ok, I gather. What number went too far, I wonder? Where did it cross the line? Was it the little girl discharged from the dysfunctional hospital, her body covered by burn wounds, who later died from infection, dehydration, and malnutrition? Was it then a line was crossed? Or maybe not. Maybe that one was ok.
