    Katie, is the first locomotive built by Sir Arthur for the Eaton Hall Railway in 1896 and now owned by the Ravenglass and Eskdale Preservation Society. The celebration, The Greatest Gathering, showcases the rich history and significance of narrow-gauge trains in the wider railway story over the past 200 years. The Greatest Gathering will take place at Alstom's Litchurch Lane site from Friday 1 August to Sunday 3 August, and will show more than 50 rolling stock exhibits.

    Water vole plea (Image: NQ) WEST Cumbria Rivers Trust is asking the public to share past sightings of water voles, as part of a plan to return them to our rivers. Water voles, known as Ratty after ‘The Wind in the Willows’, have become rare and the trust is in need of help to find their historical habitats. Project officer Izzie Mullin said: “We know official records are scarce, but we believe Ratty’s relatives were once widespread in West Cumbria.
