Jannik Sinner has continued his bid for the French Open title after reaching the quarter-finals. Sinner beat Andrey Rublev in straight sets in the night session match on Court Philippe-Chatrier. This is still only the Italian’s second tournament back, after Sinner was banned for three months following his anti-doping suspension. Since returning to the matchcourt, Sinner has reached the Italian Open final and is now just three wins away from winning the French Open.

Novak Djokovic, Rafael Nadal and Roger Federer are three of the names in the men’s debate, having dominated the ATP Tour in the 21st century. However, it is just Djokovic who still remains as an active player after Federer and Nadal retired last year.

Djokovic is the sixth seed at this year’s tournament and won his first round match against Mackenzie McDonald in comfortable fashion. While Djokovic is certainly a French Open contender, a lot of people have him behind top two seeds Jannik Sinner and Carlos Alcaraz in the pecking order.

Iga Swiatek continued her French Open winning streak after beating Emma Raducanu in straight sets. Swiatek made Grand Slam history after her emphatic victory over the 2021 US Open champion. This has not always been the case for the five-time major winner in recent weeks, with Swiatek appearing vulnerable after some of her recent losses. Despite this, Raducanu’s coach Mark Petchey has explained why he thinks Swiatek has appeared to re-find her previous form in Paris.

Naomi Osaka suffered a heartbreaking first round defeat at the French Open this year. Osaka showed promising signs on clay prior to the French Open, that included winning her first ever title on the surface. However, the former world number one was handed a nightmare first round draw at the Paris major against 10th seed Paula Badosa. Despite winning the first set of the match, Osaka lost in three sets to Badosa and was in tears during her post-match press conference.
