Novak Djokovic and Serena Williams have recently crossed paths at the Miami Open. Djokovic was watched by Williams in his fourth round match at the Miami Open, which was his best performing tournament of the year so far after finishing as runner-up. However, things have not gone so well for him since then, with Djokovic losing to Matteo Arnaldi at the Madrid Open to continue his winless clay court season.

Alexander Zverev is currently the top ranked player able to compete on the ATP Tour while Jannik Sinner is banned. Zverev won the BMW Open last week, enabling him to overtake Carlos Alcaraz and return to world number two. It had been a tricky couple of months for the German, with Zverev struggling after losing the Australian Open final. While he has been unable to take advantage of world number one Sinner’s absence, Zverev is expected to perform on clay at upcoming tournaments.

Aryna Sabalenka and Carlos Alcaraz will both be hoping to get their hands on the Madrid Open title again. Sabalenka lost to Jelena Ostapenko last week in the Porsche Tennis Grand Prix final, as she finished runner-up in Stuttgart for a fourth time. The world number one was not the only player that finished just short of a title last week, with Alcaraz losing the Barcelona Open final to Holger Rune.

Aryna Sabalenka is looking to begin her clay court season at a WTA tournament where she has finished as runner-up on three occasions. Sabalenka won the Miami Open for the first time last month after beating Jessica Pegula in the final. This was a relief for the world number one, after Sabalenka had lost the Australian Open and Indian Wells finals already this year. After Sabalenka met David Beckham in Miami, she has now returned to Europe for the clay court season.

Carlos Alcaraz was able to get the better of Lorenzo Musetti in the Monte Carlo Masters final. Alcaraz beat a hampered Musetti in the final, with the Italian struggling physically after winning the first set. After winning only eight points in the deciding set, Musetti withdrew from his next ATP tournament in a bid to recuperate for a busy clay court season. Despite finishing runner-up in disappointing fashion, Musetti has been rewarded with a career-high ranking.
