ASICS GEL-Cumulus 27 ReviewBy Matthew KleinThe ASICS GEL-Cumulus is one of the legacy series of shoes, continuing to stand out as the straight forward neutral daily training shoe of the ASICS line-up. I refer to this as a legacy shoe simply because it was already solidly established in the running footwear world even when I worked in running stores 16 years ago. Over the 27 years this shoe has been around, it has evolved an incredible amount.

RECOMMENDATIONSMatt: Given my mileage and usual preference/training in more maximal shoes, it is fair to say I have enjoyed the Xero Scrambler Low EV. It has been something I continually reach for, has been a fantastic foot-strengthening tool and something I even was brave enough to run extensively in. That said, I still have a few suggestions. My main point, which can easily be disagreed with, is the weight. 9.2 oz for a minimal shoe feels heavier than it needs to be.

ASICS Gel-Nimbus 27 ReviewBy Matthew KleinThe ASICS Nimbus series is one of the longest running premium daily training shoes on the market. When I worked in running stores (long ago), this was the shoe that was requested for those wanting the most or the softest cushioning. This shoe has kept this even in the face of massive changes to the industry, being one of the first shoes in its category to move above 40mm of stack height in the heel.

The Topo Cyclone 2 was an outstanding shoe. In 2023, it won our Best Performance Trainer of the Year, which came as a shock to some people. It was a rare shoe, featuring a moderate stack height with a full length, non-plated PEBAX midsole, an anatomic toe box and an incredibly low, sub 7 oz weight.
