As family and friends gather for the holidays, it can be hard on people who've lost loved ones, and especially those who've died from homicide. Connecticut state officials now mark Nov. 20 through Dec. 20 as a time to remember and support survivors of homicide and raise awareness. Survivors and state officials gathered on Monday at the Legislative Office Building to observe the state's first Survivors of Homicide Victims Awareness Month.

Four Connecticut residents have tested positive for the rare Powassan virus, marking the first cases of the year, state officials said. All four residents were hospitalized and treated; they have been released from the hospital and are recovering, the Connecticut Department of Public Health (DPH) said. Each person had reported being bitten by a tick.
