Estonian manufacturer Roofit.Solar has made the switch to TOPcon and unveiled plans to add a new range of colored metal roof panels with integrated monocrystalline solar cells. Chief growth officer (CGO) Greg Grace told pv magazine the expanded range brings more power and aesthetic options to the building-integrated photovoltaics (BIPV) segment.

UK developer Low Carbon has signed four power purchase agreements (PPA) with ElectroRoute covering 140 MW of solar capacity. A Low Carbon spokesperson confirmed to pv magazine that the agreements come into effect immediately and will run until March 2028. Low Carbon described the deals as balancing PPAs, agreements that will see ElectroRoute take on the delivery risk between forecast and generation.

The UK government has proposed a new grant for domestic thermal storage in a bid to accelerate the decarbonization of home heating. Grants would be available through the Boiler Upgrade Scheme (BUS), which currently offers a GBP 7,500 ($10,000) subsidy for air-source heat pumps in England and Wales. BUS grants have been the key driver behind accelerated air-source heat pump deployment in the United Kingdom.

There we 57,000 certified rooftop solar installations in the United Kingdom in the first three months of 2025, the strongest first quarter for more than a decade. The last time Q1 installations were higher was in 2012, when the UK government’s feed-in tariff offer drove demand. Certification body MCS recorded 21,000 solar PV installations in March alone, the highest for a single month since December 2015.

More than 4.4 GWh of flexibility has been delivered to Great Britain’s electricity grid through UK Power Networks’ day-ahead market since it launched in April 2024. The distribution system operator (DSO) for London, east, and southeast England said more than 150 “flexibility competitions” have been held for the market in 12 months. First trialed in late 2023, UK Power Networks’ day-ahead market works by running mini-tenders to provide grid flexibility services for the following day.

More than 15,000 heat pumps were installed in the United Kingdom in the first three months of 2025, according to the latest data from MCS. The certification body recorded 5,605 heat pump installations in March, the fourth highest monthly total to date and a 22% increase on March 2024. Strong installation figures for March 2025 helped set a first-quarter record of 15,758 certified heat pump installations, beating the previous first-quarter record of 14,211 set in 2022.

Small-scale UK battery storage installations smashed records in the first three months of 2025, according to the latest data from MCS. The certification body recorded 2,965 installations in March 2025, the highest monthly volume to date. The previous record was 2,775, set in February 2025. There were 8,337 certified battery storage installations in the first three months of the year.

UK energy regulator Ofgem told pv magazine 65 GW of solar projects are expected to secure a firm connection offer under the reformed queue system. The connections queue for Great Britain's grid has grown tenfold over the past five years and stands as a significant barrier to solar, wind and energy storage deployment.
