The "Save Our Seals from Flying Rings" Campaign 2025 officially began on Monday 26th May 2025. Flying rings, often plastic and resembling a ring with a strengthening insert, are imported into the UK in their thousands and sold in many retail outlets. Typically costing between £1 and £2 to purchase, they are often lost or discarded on beaches or near waterways, eventually ending up in the sea. Seals, possessing natural curiosity, investigate and play with these floating rings.

The £2.59 million figure represents less than 0.5% of the councils overall projected spend. Councillor Gareth Dadd, Executive Member for Finance, noted that this headline figure masks significant underlying pressures. "the headline figure shows, and I use the term loosely, but an underspend of two and a half million pounds. That is less than 0.5% of our projected spend, so I think it's fair to say we are there or thereabouts in our projections, but what it does mask is a couple of matters.

The issue centres on the purchase of Pavilion House and the former Comet building in Scarborough. The two buildings were acquired by the former council back in 2021 with the expectation that they would be redeveloped using government cash from the levelling up fund as part of a fuller development of the station gateway area. However, this additional funding "has not transpired".

Scarborough Streets Festival will get underway on FridayThe three day festival of outdoor events and performances is part of this Year's Scarborough Fair. It's the third year that the town has hosted the event and it's the final edition to be supported by funding from the Government’s Towns Fund programme. The Scarborough Fair project is funded in part by £1.2 million from the Government’s Towns Fund programme, which has been used to help to organise 15 festivals over the last three years.

The 28-year-old has established himself as a regular in the Whitby Town side since his arrival from Marske United in 2023. Known for his exceptional forward runs from right-back as much as his defending, the attack-minded player made 41 competitive appearances for the Seasiders in the 2024/25 campaign, scoring on one occasion in November's 2-1 home win over Prescot Cables.
