1 Introduction Zeolites that can be described with the general formula of M(x/n)[(AlO2)x(SiO2)y]⋅wH2O (where M is the alkali or alkaline earth cation of valance n, w is the number of water molecules, and x and y are the total numbers of tetrahedra per unit cell), are crystalline aluminosilicates with a regular micropore system, high specific surface area, hydrothermal stability, acidity and ion-exchange properties.
