All slaves are free. Those four words took two years — after the Emancipation Proclamation — to reach the ears of the last remaining enslaved people in America. Known as “General Order No. 3,” the message was delivered to the people of Galveston, Texas, on June 19, 1865. Since then, the occasion became known as Juneteenth and spurred celebrations of Black freedom across the globe.

Police arrested a man who allegedly set fire to the bosque Saturday afternoon in Northwest Albuquerque. Rebecca Atkins, an Albuquerque Police Department spokesperson, said 45-year-old Sean Taylor was in custody. Multiple homes went up in flames and several firefighters were hospitalized after a bosque fire pushed into a Los Lunas neighborhood on Saturday afternoon. Valencia County Fire Chief Matt Propp said the Cotton Fire had burned up to 200 acres in the bosque and consumed "half a block" worth of homes on Las Rosas Road, which butts up against the west side of the river, south of the Main Street bridge. kAm!C@AA D2:5 7@FC 7:C67:89E6CD 92G6 366? On Friday afternoon in Southeast Albuquerque, a common sight unfolded: People jaywalking through rolling traffic within sight of a crosswalk. A sign that read "Pedestrian In Roadway" flashed to warn drivers of their presence. The newly placed sign detects people by repurposing wildlife crossing technology, the kind seen along rural highways where elk roam freely.

Jun. 14—American flags — some inverted — waved beside Palestinian and Mexican flags as thousands protested the Trump administration Saturday at a park on Albuquerque's West Side. The "No Kings Day" rally at Mariposa Basin Park joined others across New Mexico, including in Las Cruces and Santa Fe, as part of a nationwide day of protest in response to the actions of the current president, particularly recent immigration raids and deportations.
