LEXINGTON It only took one. One became two. Six meant a moment of big-stage momentum. Boyd County didn’t record its first hit of the state tournament until the fourth inning on Thursday. Caleb Gray followed with a triple to score Conner Davis. Brogan Jones added a sacrifice fly to stake the Lions to an early lead against Boyle County.

CANNONSBURG Caleb Gray kept a firm grip on the 16th Region championship trophy in the middle of the jubilant Boyd County huddle on Saturday. The sure-handed senior catcher holds one of the main contributing factors in the Lions’ title run this spring. Gray’s command of the batter’s box remains something his teammates and a stellar pitching staff can cling to in deciding moments. kAm“r2=63 :D 2 8C62E =6256C[” vC2?E $=2E6C D2:5] “w6 4@?EC@=D E96 82>6 G6CJ H6==] w6’D 23=6 E@ D=@H 6G6CJE9:?8 5@H?

CANNONSBURG Frank Conley showed off his wheels and nearly beat the winning run to the plate in the final moments of Saturday’s 16th Region Tournament championship. The celebratory Boyd County coach ran down the third-base line and had an up-close view of Charles Smith’s slide home to give the host Lions a 13-3 five-inning victory over Rowan County and claim the program’s 18th region crown.

CANNONSURG The large gathering at Addington Field held its collective breath. The pitcher’s duel that had commenced for five innings had already left them breathless. Brayden Coleman finally gave everybody a reason to exhale. Boyd County’s designated hitter sent a ball deep to the right-field corner in the sixth inning.
