    The senior column comes with an inevitable sense of pressure. Even if hardly anyone reads what I write, it will sit on my conscience whether I managed to faithfully reflect the highs and lows of the last four years. Part of that internal tension, I suspect, comes from typical self-absorption. But there is likewise a motivation to answer my peers and mentors who urged me to write this piece, many of whom I admire and to whom I am indebted.
