Panamanian President José Raúl Mulino on Thursday ruled out negotiations with US president-elect Donald Trump over control of the Panama Canal, denying that China was interfering in its operation.
Mulino also rejected the possibility of reducing tolls for US vessels in response to Trump's threat to demand control of the vital waterway connecting the Atlantic and Pacific oceans be returned to Washington.
"There's nothing to talk about," Mulino told a press conference.

More than 160 Chinese workers have been saved from "slave-like conditions" in Brazil, where they had been building an electric car factory for Chinese giant BYD, officials said Tuesday.
BYD's Brazilian subsidiary said in a statement late Monday it has "broken with immediate effect" its contract with the company responsible for the work on the site, Jinjiang Construction Brazil Ltd.

Venezuelan authorities have released "all" the teenagers imprisoned during protests against the disputed re-election of President Nicolás Maduro, the NGO Foro Penal, which defends "political prisoners," said on Tuesday.
"It is good news that all the teenagers have been released. However, many young people remain in prison," said Alfredo Romero, director of the NGO, who estimated the number of arrests of young people under 18 at more than 160.

Amnesty International (AI) welcomed Monday the ruling by the Inter-American Commission on Human Rights that condemned El Salvador for preventing a woman from having an abortion in 2013 despite the fact that her life was in danger.

Ecuador's President Daniel Noboa has ordered an intensified search for four adolescent boys who disappeared during a military operation, as public anger over the incident flared weeks ahead of elections.
But, in a radio interview on Monday, Noboa also said that a "technical analysis" was needed before the incident could be called a forced disappearance, despite prosecutors saying it was being investigated as an illegitimate use of force.

At least one person has died and 16 others are missing after a bridge collapsed between the northern Brazilian states of Maranhão and Tocantins, a police spokesman told AFP on Monday.
Four trucks, two cars, and two motorcycles were on the part of the bridge that gave way on Sunday afternoon, according to authorities.
