Thornton Township High Schools District 205 has three goals for its seniors graduating this month: enrolled, enlisted, or employed. At the district’s May meeting, administrators highlighted how students across the district have risen to the occasion. Ninety-two percent of the graduating class of Thornridge High School has been accepted into a college or university, according to assistant superintendent of curriculum and instruction, Tony Ratliff.

South Suburban College board of trustees honored the contributions of its staff, welcomed new campus officers, and approved funds for atrium renovations at its May 8 meeting. “It’s always a good day to see smiling faces and familiar faces who come back and to celebrate with us the successes of the institution and ongoing successes,” president Lynette Stokes said.

An independent auditor was unable to verify parts of South Holland School District 151’s financial reports from this year due to a lag in recordkeeping from the township treasurer. The Thornton Township Trustees of Schools is responsible for managing district investments, as well as accountable payable. The township treasurer’s office is about three years behind in its recordkeeping, which has prevented districts from receiving full insight of their finances.

Thornridge High School is getting a facelift after school board officials unanimously approved a $4.9 million renovation to modernize its 63-year-old facade. The renovations will include exterior windows and door replacements along with architectural panels and modern signage. The high school’s facade has endured years of significant wear and tear. According to buildings and grounds coordinator Gregory Crump, the building is hard to maintain and looks outdated.
