Police are investigating an incident in which a man killed his wife before taking his life at Manyatta estate in Kisumu. Felix Owiti, 23, stabbed his wife Jecinta Atieno, 26, to death on the chest. He later hanged himself using a rope on the rooftop of their house on Monday morning. The motive of the killings is unclear, however, neighbours said the two have been having domestic issues. Owiti and Atieno were working at Osiepe bar within the Kona Legio area as manager and cleaner respectively.

Detectives from the Directorate of Criminal Investigations are investigating the foiled abduction of a contractor at the Lake Victoria Campus Kenya Medical Training College in Kisumu. This is after three people attempted to abduct Saptiff Glow Company’s director Dominic Lugariki within the college on Wednesday. He was rescued from the kidnappers who had bundled him into a waiting motor vehicle by the students after raising the alarm during the 5 pm incident.

Transport on the Ahero-Kisumu highway was temporarily disrupted on Tuesday morning after Gen Z protesters barricaded Ahero bridge. The demonstrators lit bonfires, making the road impassable. As a result, several vehicles and passengers, including a vehicle transporting The Star newspapers, were stranded. A passenger, Joseph Otieno, reported being stuck at Ahero since 6 am. Businesses have also been closed with traders fearing possible looting and destruction of property.

The Ministry of Labour and Social Protection is pursuing various bilateral agreements with Western European and Middle East countries for job opportunities for Kenyans. Labour and Skills Development Principal Secretary Shadrack Mwadime said the labour bilateral targets create employment opportunities for skilled Kenyans abroad. Mwadime said the government will soon sign a bilateral agreement with Germany which will create a system for skilled workers to move between the countries.

Muhoroni MP Onyango Koyoo has asked Agriculture PS Kipronoh Rono to clarify the criteria used by the government to refund arrears owed to workers at two local sugar plants. Koyoo wrote to Rono, requesting him to explain how the government calculated the debt owed to workers at Muhoroni and Chemelil Sugar firms which are in his constituency. He raised concerns that the two factories might have received unfair treatment during the transaction.
