In Maturín, Venezuela, thousands sang the Latin American country’s national anthem before facing Peru in the 2026 FIFA World Cup qualifiers. On Tuesday, thousands of kilometers away, dozens of compatriots gathered in South Florida with the same goal: to support La Vinotinto despite the distance, holding onto a dream that transcends borders. “Going to the World Cup would be a caress, a balm, a joy amid so many difficulties,” said sports journalist Fernando Petrocelli, who organized the event.

As the Miami Heat were faced the Philadelphia 76ers last Wednesday, it was announced that Butler would be going to the Golden State Warriors as part of a blockbuster trade that sends Andrew Wiggins, Kyle Anderson and a top-10 protected 2025 first-round pick to the team. Although Miami beat Philadelphia to go above .500, Butler’s departure has left a void for other players to fill.

Inter Miami’s chances of winning the MLS Cup ended earlier this month, but luckily for them, their participation in the FIFA Club World Cup had been announced a couple weeks before. FIFA’s President Gianni Infantino was present at Chase Stadium during Inter Miami’s last regular season game, which also featured a ceremony where the Herons lifted the Supporters’ Shield, which goes to the Major League Soccer team with the best regular season record.

Yesterday, Venezuela made history at the SoFi stadium winning 1-0 against Mexico, claimed the top spot of Group B, and qualified to the quarter-finals. The SoFi Stadium, in Inglewood, California, reached 72,773 people in attendance, many of which made it clear that the Mexican national team played as locals against Venezuela. During the first half, México started with great momentum, controlled the ball, and created many opportunities to score.

Tonight, thousands of soccer fans will gather at the Sofi Stadium in Inglewood, California, where Venezuela will compete against Mexico for the top position in group for the 2024 Copa America. In their first group-stage matches, Venezuela claimed a 2-1 victory against Ecuador while Mexico defeated Jamaica 1-0. Now, at SoFi Stadium, those victors will fight to make it to the next round.

When South Florida parent Alexander Gutierrez wanted to introduce his daughter to sports, he chose the Hollywood YMCA. “You feel like a family because everybody else is like you,” said Gutierrez. “You find the mom that works, the dad that works every day and kids who come from school. The schedule is a really good benefit because it fits very well in your daily tasks.”His daughter, Daniela, also likes the social aspect.

Visual artist Angelica Clyman believes that you can find purpose in an unconventional career. “I’m really proud, more than anything, of how much my art has evolved since I’ve been doing art for about 25 years,” said Clyman. “To see how much my work has evolved, how much I’ve grown, that’s what I’m most proud of.”Clyman’s recent mixed media sculptures evoke South Florida’s ever changing landscapes, and her work has been shown in exhibitions conducted at The Rosemary Duffy Larson Gallery in Davie.
