Outside legal counsel for the company told employees to bring more documents than usual to demonstrate their ties to the United States, including bank statements and lease agreements.

Seems like a way to avoid endorsing candidates the Times likes but have no chance of winning, like what happened when the NYT joint endorsed Warren/Klobuchar in 2020. Instead, the NYT ends up not endorsing any candidate while REALLY not endorsing one particular candidate.
