Beloved Aspen bar and restaurant, Mi Chola, invited the community to their Cinco de Mayo celebration last Monday, May 5. Owner Darren Chapple and his team pulled out all the stops with festive decor, music from Mike Nakagawa (also known as DJ Naka G), Mexican food and drink specials, and a welcoming atmosphere. As noted in a recent edition of The Aspen Times, Mi Chola will close in late September, a bittersweet ending after many years occupying the corner of Main and Mill Streets.

The weekend of April 19-20 served as the last call for lift-served skiing at Aspen and Snowmass, with parties planned at both resorts in a complementary fashion. The season ended on a high note with talented DJs scattered across the slopes for upbeat gatherings. Saturday at Elk Camp featured a pond skimming contest off to the east side of the lift, with Golden spinning and a dance party off to the west side on Elk Camp’s outdoor patio with DJ Romy.

As the spring skiing parties end, one fun après in particular this season took place at Performance Ski at the base of Aspen Mountain. Coinciding with the Snow League competition weekend in March, the après-ski party drew friends of the family behind Performance Ski — Tom Bowers and Lee Keating and their daughter Dairinn and son Jack — and ski enthusiasts. The spring weather allowed for the doors to be open with a full house inside that spilled onto the sidewalk out front.

Buttermilk Mountain’s closing weekend was a bit more roaring than usual with live music on Saturday, April 5, at Home Team BBQ at The Inn at Aspen. The troupe of longtime local musicians came together to play, hailing from various bands over the years, from ‘Jes Grew to the Drunken Poets to Monkey Train. Fans of all ages gathered for the après-ski set that served as a reunion for generations. “‘Jes Grew played at our wedding in 1999,” said Carol Wood.
