If you’re anything like me, you live and breathe coastal grandmother trends. Do I live anywhere near the coast? Well, not unless you count the coast of Lake Michigan. But Ralph Lauren, blue and white stripes, hydrangeas, Nancy Meyers, crisp rosé, a sweater haphazardly thrown over your shoulders—all of this adds up to a dreamy, slow, and beautiful lifestyle that I aspire to. And despite my love for Nancy, there’s another icon I’ve been obsessed with lately: Ina Garten.

As a kid, I always loved preparing for a new school year: shopping for new clothes, buying new school supplies, resetting my desk, starting a new planner. These annual rituals marked an end to summer and the start of fall, making me forever associate this time of year with fresh starts. As I transitioned from student to employed adult, however, I started to miss my back-to-school rituals and decided to recreate them for myself.

Even though it’s still warm outside, I’m starting to dream about fall. Cozy sweaters, pumpkin spice everything, leaves changing, chai tea cookies, fall movies—it’s by far the best season of the year. Following Harvard Health’s recommendation, I knew I needed 50-75 grams a day (more like 100 grams on active days). But sure enough, the overwhelm took over and I didn’t know where to start.

I’ve been going through some major life changes over the last year: I lost my job, moved across the country, started a new job, and moved in with my boyfriend. While most of these changes were exciting and positive, they brought on a lot more stress and anxiety than I had anticipated, and the stress brought up some old bad habits I thought I had kicked. I was staying up until 2 a.m., doom-scrolling for hours, avoiding my workouts, and reaching for not-so-healthy foods.
