In 2020, the U.S. Postal Service issued commemorative stamps featuring 10 images of the late Ruth Asawa’s wire sculptures. Now, a graphic biography published earlier this year explores formative moments in the young adult life of this celebrated artist. Illustrated in greyscale drawings, the book opens at the family’s California farm on December 7, 1941: the day of the attack on Pearl Harbor.
