Like many people, I’m trying to cut down on household waste. One thing that I feel particularly strongly about is gifting. At Christmas, we produce a sickening amount of plastic and non-recyclable materials; because we have two children, the family (very kindly) give them lots of presents, usually drowning in packaging. We always receive these gratefully, but I do feel guilty about it. I’m trying to be more mindful with the gifts I buy for other people, either by buying local, or buying secondhand.

The climate crisis is becoming more of an urgent problem every day. Even in the UK, where the weather is fairly predictable, we’re seeing increasing instances of red-alert weather events, severe storms with a threat to life, and flooding. Unfortunately, not all governments across the globe share a concern for the environment.
