It was some time into practice before I understood how being a therapist contributes to one’s own growth. I found this assurance from my best mentors rather mysterious. Sure, I’m a better listener, but what did they really mean? From my vantage point now, it seems obvious, and it is more than being attuned. On the surface, it is about being able to hear stories of suffering and watch someone struggle, while not falling apart oneself or imposing one’s own experience on someone else.

Maine’s attorney general is suing manufacturers of so-called forever chemicals that have contaminated farms and wells, contending they knew about the toxicity decades ago but concealed the information from the public. Water safety is also an issue in North Carolina, a state the faces a growing number of water-related challenges according to experts at the NC Water Resources Research Institute conference this week.
