The first sign of trouble for Mike, who asked to remain anonymous, at his new-to-him Troy Hill home began as a leak in his office. That leak quickly became a deluge that ruined the second-floor office and damaged the kitchen below. Mike says that when he purchased the home in 2020, he was drawn in by the open floorplan of what appeared to be a nicely remodeled kitchen — which was suddenly in disrepair.

From simple adjustments like reduced noise and calmer lighting to sensory bags full of tools useful in self-regulation, the Pittsburgh region's businesses, theaters and museums are working hard to accommodate a wider variety of visitors. Many of the region's organizations work with KultureCity to become sensory-inclusive for visitors.

In early October, the Harris campaign revealed a new senior care proposal that, if implemented, could change the way that America cares for its senior citizens. The plan, dubbed “Medicare at Home,” could expand Medicare — the insurance program available to Americans aged 65 and older — to finally cover in-home care for seniors.

Whenever I tell another mom that my youngest child’s birthday is in August, they inevitably make a comment about how nice it must be to be able to throw parties in the summer.
