They jumped at the chance to give back to someone they say has poured so much of his time and talent into his community. Madison Central graduate Omari Daniels has many jobs. He's a student at Hinds Community College, assists show choirs, is a summer camp counselor and works at Madison Beagle Bagel.

    The city of Jackson will fork over nearly 20-thousand dollars for stolen golf carts.According to the parks and recreation director, five carts leased from Yamaha were stolen from the Pete Brown golf course and the course at Grove Park over a four-year period.The City Council voted Tuesday to pay Yamaha more than $17,000. According to the mayor, they’ve now installed GPS on the golf carts and fortified the barn where they are stored to prevent theft.

    A Capitol police chase ended with the arrest of a man wanted in Michigan.Around 7:15 p.m. Thursday, Capitol Police attempted to stop a driver on Northview and Meadowbrook Roads. Police say the driver refused to stop, leading officers on a chase to Eminence Row. A police spokesman says officers learned the driver, 54-year-old Kenneth Davis, had multiple outstanding warrants from Michigan.

    House Speaker Jason White says the Mississippi House of Representatives passed a bill that could give eight weeks of paid leave to employees after the birth or adoption of a child.House Bill 1063 passed by a 114-0 vote. The Mississippi State Employees Paid Parental Leave Act would provide state employees eight weeks of 100% paid leave as the primary caregiver after the birth or adoption of a child and two weeks for the secondary caregiver.
