Australian mining company Leo Lithium Ltd. has agreed to sell its remaining stake in the Goulamina lithium property in Mali to China's Ganfeng Lithium Group Co. Ltd., ending an impasse with the local government and putting the project back on track for first production this year. The agreement is the second case in May of an Australian miner reaching the end of a long trading halt over disputes with African governments. AVZ Minerals Ltd.

The two biggest rare earth producers outside China slogged through another quarter of weak prices as they wait for excess stocks in China to fade and for the country's economy to rev up demand, executives said during recent earnings calls. Rare earth magnets are crucial to the energy transition as they are used in wind turbines and electric vehicles.

Lithium, graphite and ferronickel producers were among the most shorted stocks on Asia-Pacific exchanges in early March, according to an S&P Global Market Intelligence analysis. Syrah Resources Ltd., the largest graphite producer outside China, topped the list of most shorted equities in Australia with 18.8% of shares borrowed on loan as of March 8.
