The European Central Bank is expected to cut interest rates again this week after inflation fell below the bloc’s 2 per cent target. Annual consumer price inflation rose by an average rate of 1.9 per cent in the single currency area in April, undershooting the ECB’s 2 per cent target for the first time since September 2024. The data was lower than the 2.1 per cent acceleration expected by the central bank.
