The elegant town of Beverley is a place of surprises: around every corner is the location of some notable’s birthplace or some significant event – approaching the spectacular Minster we came across the house where Mary Wollstonecraft spent her childhood.

Hampshire and Surrey are the locations for the two Granges to showcase wonderful summer music. The Grange Festival and Grange Park Opera may not be quite as well known as those other two Gs (Glyndebourne and Garsington Opera), but their settings – though each completely different – can easily compete in terms of idyllic beauty, and their operatic offerings strike an impressive balance between the traditional and the unexpected.

The Royal Ballet and Opera gives the world a chance to continue its Ring journey on the silver screen. Barrie Kosky’s production has garnered rave reviews from the performances onstage at the Royal Opera House, but how would it come across in this live broadcast to hundreds of cinemas around the world? Happily it translates very well to the cinema screen – as directed by Peter Jones for this medium, very little is lost in terms of dramatic action and performance.
