When my son Marcus was appointed MBE, he dedicated it to me. I was so proud. It brought me back to the times when Marcus was younger and made me remember where we came from. I had three jobs: one at the bookies in a customer service role, cleaning and pot washing. The jobs were needed to provide food on the table and to pay household bills. It wasn’t easy. In those days, Marcus used to go training at Fletcher Moss Rangers in Merseybank, not too far away from where we lived.
