The Calgary Fire Department (CFD) says a house that went up in flames in Mount Pleasant on Wednesday was for sale. Crews responded to the home, located in the 500 block of 28 Avenue N.W., at 9:45 a.m.A news release from CFD says firefighters arrived to find smoke billowing from the bungalow and “significant flames” inside.

A southern Alberta man says he asked the cashier to double check his lottery ticket when he found out he’d won. Don Dueck of Wheatland County, east of Calgary, won $100,000 on the March 14 Western Max and Extra draw. Dueck bought his ticket from the Fas Gas in Strathmore and won by matching the last six digits of the Extra: 4453444.

A Calgary officer has been cleared of any wrongdoing in a physical interaction with a 37-year-old man who later died in hospital. The incident happened on the evening of July 8, 2021. Calgary homeowners are being warned that their cart collection schedule might soon change. The City of Calgary says adjustments to the pickup of blue, black and green bins are needed as the city continues to grow, increasing the number of communities that require garbage, recycling and compost collection and changing truck routes. The new schedules will take effect the week of Tuesday, April 22, following Easter Monday.

Calgary police have laid additional charges against a woman accused of filing faulty dental insurance claims. The accused, Alena Vladimiro Smadych, 55, was charged with one count of fraud over $5,000 in November in connection with fraudulent dental claims totalling nearly $100,000.
