Streets engineered for speeding traffic — with little or no recognition for people on foot, in wheelchairs or on bicycles — are "dangerous by design," explains the National Complete Streets Coalition in the 2016 Dangerous by Design report, of which AARP is a sponsor. The data compiled covers the years 2005 to 2014, a decade during which 46,149 people were struck and killed by cars while walking. "We must use every tool available to improve safety for pedestrians," declare the authors.

It’s just over a year since I took the role of Lead Nurse for IHSC in the North West and I want to thank you all for making this first year so productive and enjoyable. What with supporting our NHS colleagues during Industrial Action on the picket line at 6am in sub-zero temperatures to establishing key stakeholder relationships with our Integrated Care Boards and Local Care Providers, it has been a year packed with invaluable experiences and learning curves.

"Converting a motel into senior housing is not just an idea, we have put this idea into practice on a small scale! In March 2020 it was necessary to put my brother into assisted living for recovery from a medical problem. By the end of the month, the COVID-19 pandemic had been declared, and his nice, friendly residence was put into lockdown. He didn't get to enjoy the freedom we were expecting. No more bus tours or outings, no communal gatherings. They did their best, but it just wasn't appealing.
