U.S. oil and gas producers are already cutting back spending and activity in anticipation of a bumpy ride ahead. A new forecast from S&P Global Commodity Insights details just how bumpy that ride will get. As OPEC+ accelerates its unwinding of production cuts — along with supply growth elsewhere — the company forecasts production of oil and condensate will grow 2.2 million barrels a day in the second half of the year. That compares to expected crude demand growth of just 390,000 barrels per day.

Texas’ multi-year effort to receive primacy over Class VI underground injection wells is nearing its conclusion. The Environmental Protection Agency this week announced its proposed approval of the state’s request to administer permitting under the Safe Drinking Water Act (SDWA) for Class VI underground injection wells in the state. Texas already has primacy to administer underground injection control programs for Class I-V wells.

Hurricane Barbara is roaming the Pacific Ocean off Mexico’s southwestern coast and Tropical Storm Cosme is developing in the same region as hurricane season gets underway. Though West Texas is hundreds of miles away, National Weather Service studies show the region is affected every three to five years by remnants of tropical systems originating in the eastern northern Pacific Ocean.
