    Ward 11 Councilmember Emily Koski announced her candidacy for mayor of Minneapolis at Pearl Park this morning. Her speech focused on her background and what she sees as Mayor Jacob Frey’s lack of action in office. “Over the last four years, I’ve had a front row seat to this mayor’s tenure. I’ve witnessed first-hand his inability to work with your City Council and his absence at so many tables,” Koski said in front of a crowd of media and supporters.

    There are now two mayoral candidates with Southwest Minneapolis roots.  Omar Fateh, a Minnesota senator for District 62, has just launched an ActBlue donation site, but with little information on his campaign. “Together, we can build a city that works for everyone!” Fateh’s donation site reads. As a Minnesota senator, Fateh received attention for his work on a State bill on rideshare regulations that Gov. Tim Walz vetoed.

    Jones received 84% of the vote, López received 15% of the vote. The remaining votes were write-ins. In other Southwest-area State representative races, Jamie Long won reelection as the 61B State representative with 89% of the vote. Bob "Again" Carney Jr., his Republican opponent, received 11% of the vote. Aisha Gomez won reelection as the 62A State representative with 90% of the vote. Alexandra (ZaZa) Hoffman Novick, her Republican opponent, received 10% of the vote.

    Greta Callahan received 62% of the vote, Lara Bergman received 37% of the vote in the Nov. 5 general election. All District 6 precincts voted in the majority for Callahan. Kim Ellison returns as the at-large school board director. Ellison received 58% of the vote, her opponent Shayla Owodunni received 42% of the vote. The Minneapolis Public Schools technology tax levy passed with 66% of the voters voting yes and 34% of voters voting no.
