After four years and 52 studios, piercing studio Rowan found its way from Manhattan’s Upper East Side to Richmond’s West End. The nationwide chain pierces only with hypoallergenic earrings by licensed nurses. Louisa Schneider, Rowan’s founder, comes from a family of medical professionals and wanted a safe, healthy studio for first-time piercings and repeat customers. Rowan’s location in Short Pump Town Center welcomes walk-ins, but appointments are recommended.

This year’s theme of “Homes & Habitats: A Celebration of Connection” uses millions of lights and festive decor to transform Lewis Ginter’s 50 acres into rainforests, deserts, wetlands and more. Each habitat houses a Pokémon character in lights, so search the grounds to catch ’em all.

Tucked into an unassuming plaza off Hull Street Road in Midlothian, 24-hour simulation golf facility Green Club opened its doors for area golfers in August. Owners Kyle Petersen and Jarad Earley ideated Green Club from the lack of golf facilities open after work hours and during inclement weather. Members can hit shots any time of day, seven days a week, accessing the facility via app.

James “Jimmy” Lee Harper Jr. was born in January 1980 in Newport News, Va. After graduating from Mid-Carolina High School in Prosperity, S.C., he enlisted in the United States Air Force. Harper served with the 1st Combat Camera Squadron in Charleston, S.C., as a photojournalist in 2002. While he was part of the 1st Combat Camera Squadron, his imagery was used in print media, various websites, and broadcast media globally during sustained combat operations.
