In mid-November, flyers were dropped in my neighborhood, in Goshen, Indiana. The image on the flyers was of Uncle Sam kicking a family. The top of the flyer read, “Leave Now,” and below the family, it read, “Avoid Deportation.” The flyer included contact information from “Trinity White Knights from the Ku Klux Klan,” with an address in Kentucky. Several things struck me all at once about this flyer and its contents. One of the things that struck me was the family pictured in the flyer.

The Mennonite Church USA Executive Board affirmed a call from the denomination’s Racial Ethnic Council to increase awareness of the historical record of Mennonites of color and set direction for a task group to review MC USA’s denominational structure at its Nov. 14-16 meeting in Destin, Fla.

The Mennonite Church USA Executive Board has updated its guidelines for resolutions and church statements and appointed a new resolutions committee ahead of the July 11-12, 2025, Delegate Assembly in Greensboro, N.C.The updated document now asks authors to describe potential downsides or negative consequences of their proposed resolution and how it might be implemented across the denomination. The deadline for submitting resolutions is Nov.

Mennonite Church USA’s Bring the Peace awards honor a pastor who has worked to support immigrant families and a therapist who helps young adults of color develop their leadership skills. Tina Schlabach is receiving the Legacy Peacemaker award, and Abby Endashaw is receiving the Young Peacemaker award. MC USA’s Church Peace Tax Fund sponsors the awards with a $300 annual grant. Schlabach is co-pastor of Shalom Mennonite Fellowship in Tucson, Ariz.
