    The Zambezi regional health directorate has urged residents to continue taking preventative measures after malaria treatment to avoid being infected again. The region has reported about 1891 new cases this week, bringing the total malaria cases to 15 371, 14 deaths, and 626 hospital admissions since January. Health director Woita Kapumburu told The Namibian yesterday that though this week they have seen a slight decrease in new infections, they are concerned about the spike in reinfections.

    Six individuals accused of defrauding a local businessman of over N$29 million were each granted bail of N$100 000 in the Walvis Bay Magistrate’s Court on Tuesday. Only N$4 million of that money has been recovered to date. The six, which includes Victoria George (34), Abisai Ndeunyema (34), Cecilia Nakale (53), Elizabeth Shikongo (30), Vitalis Ithete (50), and Elizabeth Niilonga (54), appeared for the bail hearing which started on Monday.

    The police in the Zambezi region have confirmed the escape of five trial-awaiting inmates from the Ngoma Police Holding Cells on Saturday morning, with two still at large.     A man (46) was reportedly stabbed to death by his younger brother (46) after a quarrel at Onkumbula in the Oshikoto region’s Okankolo constituency on Thursday. The Namibian Police’s regional commander, commissioner Theopoline Kalompho-Nashikaku, said the incident occurred around 01h00 after the two had an argument. Kalompho-Nashikaku said the suspect allegedly used a kitchen knife to stab his brother after he had entered his bedroom.
