    After three years of planning and engaging the community for support, the Terrigal Community Garden project is about to break ground on the site chosen for the garden. Project organisers will hold a Turning of the First Sod ceremony to celebrate the start of the garden on Saturday, May 10, at noon. The ceremony will be held at the garden site on the corner of Duffys Rd and Terrigal Dr at the rear of the 50 Plus Leisure and Learning Centre.

It will also call on the Minister for Emergency Services to issue a natural disaster declaration for the Tuggerah Lakes flooding “of May 2025”.

    A rate rise of 4.3 per cent is on the cards after Central Coast Council adopted the rate rise to go out on public exhibition at its April 29 meeting. Councillors did not mention the rate rise or the proposed increase in fees and charges when they adopted the draft operational plan and budget which will now go on public exhibition from Thursday, May 1. After hearing from the public, the councillors will then make a final decision in June.

    Resident Kevin Brooks wants Central Coast Council to explain what is going to do with an extra $25M it will have at its disposal once it pays back the last of its emergency loans in November. Brooks addressed the April 29 meeting, pointing out issues with Council’s long-term financial plan, tabled as part of its operational plan and budget for the coming financial year. The long term plan’s preferred scenario keeps a 15 per cent rate rise imposed for 10 years from 2022.
