As best I can discern both the No Kings demonstrations with 5 to 7 million participants, but also the pathetic Military March and its minuscule turnout that showed Trump’s declining public support were a huge June 14th resistance success. If Trump didn’t have the federal government, he would not have much. The trouble is, he does have the federal government and the federal government is not nothing. A week after June 14, it still represses LA at home. It still devastates Gaza abroad.

There is something happening here and what it is is all too clear. Officer: Did you watch movies as a child? Did you wonder how Hitler could dominate Germany’s thoughts, dreams, and beliefs to the point of nazifying so many minds and getting the rest to accept their lot? I did. I wondered how that was possible. Even as a youngster I had some silly theories. Was it their language? Their diet? Did they have different genes? I idly offered childish blather. But now it is truth time.

We live amidst lunacy that kills. Calm, reasoned reports of escalating state criminality are part of ending state criminality. Ditto for deep diving conceptual analyses. And also for historical contextualizations. All good. All needed. But we must also emotively emphasize the utterly obvious if we are to ward off and reverse dangerous lunacy. Too calm may make disgusting normal. Too calm may make every street corner a shooting gallery, every handheld device a bomb.
