On Valentine’s Day 1984, months after its publication, the Ethiopian writer and journalist Baalu Girma departed his home in Addis Ababa to meet friends in a nearby town and never showed up. His car was later found on the side of a road, but Girma was nowhere to be found. To this day, his whereabouts are unknown.
