And while issues including the Covid-19 pandemic, suicide, drug overdoses and road accident deaths have driven health outcomes down across the county, Iron County has been hit particularly hard even compared to its Upper Peninsula counterparts.

Iron County was one of the top seven U.P. counties for increased net migration, with newcomers outearning those who left the region for another state by roughly 25 percent annually. Migration occurs in two forms: in-migration and outmigration, and the difference between the two are net migration.
