Quarterback J'Zavien Currence scored five touchdowns to lead South Pointe to a 49-3 victory against Rock Hill on Saturday morning. It was the fifth consecutive win in the series for the Stallions against their crosstown rivals. Both teams played a sloppy game. The contest featured 26 total penalties for 232 penalty yards and two called-back South Pointe touchdowns.

Determination. That's what Northwestern senior linebacker Will Massey said he saw from the defense in the final 15 minutes of the Trojans' 45-44 win against Hough in Week 0. A Northwestern missed field goal gave Hough the ball at its own 20 with 3:20 left in the third quarter and a 44-24 lead. However, the defensive leaders didn't point fingers or get down on themselves; instead, they picked each other up. Trying to salt away the victory, Hough put in its backup quarterback for the ensuing drive.

Legion Collegiate Academy will sponsor a scholarship in memory of former head baseball coach Jalen Benjamin. Benjamin died in a car crash on Aug. 10 on his way to a baseball game. He was 29. The school announced the details for the Jalen Benjamin Memorial Scholarship during Tuesday night's junior varsity/varsity volleyball doubleheader against Indian Land celebrated as "J-Rock Night." A baseball base signed by the Legion Collegiate Academy community in Jalen Benjamin's honor.

Spartanburg kicker Will Love made a 21-yard field goal with six seconds left as the Vikings beat South Pointe, 26-25, on opening night of the South Carolina high school football season. South Pointe head coach Bobby Collins lamented the missed opportunities by his team Friday night. The Stallions had two extra points blocked, failed on a two-point conversion and committed three turnovers. Had any of those gone South Pointe's way, the outcome may have been different.

South Pointe, Northwestern and Rock Hill high schools all played their final tuneup scrimmages at the seventh annual WRHI Football City USA Kick-Off on Friday night. South Pointe opened the action with a 17-0 victory over Palisades of Charlotte. Behind new starting quarterback J'Zavien Currence, the Stallions scored touchdowns on their two opening possessions, though South Pointe mustered just three points over its next four offensive possessions the rest of the way.
