Although I appreciate what Jon Berti has been providing the Cubs as the new everyday(ish) third baseman, he’s not a long-term answer for any serious contending club. He’s not even really a medium-term answer. Plus, when he does start, you lose what value he does provide as a late-game bat (or pair of legs) off the bench. All of which is to say, my mind has not left Matt Shaw since he was demoted back to Triple-A Iowa in mid-April.
