“We’re back!”“It’s got that feeling again!”“We’re SO back!”“It’s the AEW we remember!”I can’t help but wonder if these phrases would have been used during the WCW Nitro Era. Did WCW or even the WWF Attitude Era have its ups and downs? Absolutely. Without question. However both companies never failed to deliver television to be talked about until the next episode. AEW, in my opinion, seems to be in their own era of rekindling their era as well.

The Dynamite before the Dynasty pay-per-view was a mixed bag of hype and speculation. Let’s get right to the show and see if we can unravel some mysteries. The show kicked off with a rarity, a Mixed Tornado Tag Team Match where Swerve Strickland and Willow Nightingale got the win after Willow scored the Doctor Bomb on Marina Shafir. Entertaining opener, and I was thoroughly impressed with the women having the opportunity to strike and overpower the men.

I have to start this review with major praise for all the Covers on issue 18. The main plus all variants, the spoilers, are all incredible. Personally speaking, I don’t normally Reserve multiple variant covers from my local comic shop. However, since I have an inside track on upcoming releases, there was no way I was going to let these variants slip through my fingers. I did not pick up all of them, but the A main, B variant, and F cover spoiler variants were my picks.

Let’s keep something in mind, not every episode has to be near pay-per-view quality. For those of you who think every match needs to be five stars and anything less is considered garbage, I can’t imagine the number of brains exploding during the ’80s and 90s of both WWF and WCW. Dynamite was a curious episode indeed. on paper a lot of healthy midcard matches, with some very promising promos. Let’s take a run through and see how good the show really turned out to be.

War! The battle continues to rage forward. If you thought Godzilla vs. King Gidorah was a clash of titans, then Devastator vs. Bruticus will satisfy those of you who either enjoy or gasp in fear of city-destroying battles. Issue #17 weaves a few stories around each other, none completely connecting fully. However, given the flow of past story arcs, keep eyes will pick up on the pieces which will weave them together. On Earth, Arcee and Beachcomber seek out Ultra Magnus.
