The NYLT Leadership Academy prepares National Youth Leadership Training (NYLT) graduates to teach leadership skills to others. After attending the academy, John Weisser saw that what he learned impacted more than his ability to be a good teacher. “It gives you the ability to make a friendship and make it deeper,” the 20-year-old from Venturing Crew 2020 of Penfield, N.Y., and an Eagle Scout from Troop 35 in Red Lion, Pa., says.

You don’t have to travel far to find adventure. Last year, Troop 202 of Carmel, Ind., found an awesome outing about a 30-minute drive away. Each summer, the troop’s Scouts come up with ideas to fill out the next year’s calendar before the patrol leader’s council narrows down the ideas and assigns each patrol to do more research. They also look for new adventures, keeping seasons and pricing in mind.

Scouting America offers more than 130 merit badges. By earning these awards, youth explore topics that could help shape their future hobbies or careers. Some ambitious Scouts earn every available merit badge. Luka Herrera earned them all before turning 18 last fall. It was a nearly four-year endeavor as the Eagle Scout with Troop 522 of Overland Park, Kan., decided to go for it after earning Scouts BSA’s highest rank. “I earned all the Eagle-required merit badges,” Luka says.

Opinion,Reviews,Theater | ORLANDO — You’re sitting in a spacious theater. It’s well lit as you walk in and find a seat. The performer, Paul Strickland, strolls onto the stage and starts chatting with the audience before the show starts. And then … the theater plunges into total darkness. There is Mr. Strickland, of course, and he has sound effects, and some special lighting at unique moments, but you’re still surrounded by complete blackness.

Some council camps boast more than a century in operation, a few dating back to the 1910s, just a few years after Scouting America incorporated. This week, Camp Tahquitz, a Long Beach Area Council camp, adds its name to that list of camps that have hit the 100-year mark. The camp’s all-volunteer staff, nicknamed the “Tahquitz Community,” will also celebrate its centennial anniversary. The council will celebrate with an anniversary event on June 28, capping off the first week of summer camp.

Who remembers that great cartoon character … Muttley?!! I found this cool comic book with Dick Dastardly and Muttley, his sidekick the alway-snickering dog! One of the best characters Hanna-Barbera ever created, Muttley can still get me laughing like I did watching him as a kid https://t.co/LdsOl2vPm3

As The Rolling Stones plug away in concert, today marked the premiere of their 1964 debut album. Uncharacteristically, just one song, "Tell Me," was credited to Jagger-Richards, as the band delivered sizzling versions of Chuck Berry's "Carol" and Buddy Holly's "Not Fade Away." https://t.co/GgEMcfdZ5w

#OTD in 1967 we lost Claude Rains. He should have gotten Oscars for his roles as Louis Renault in Casablanca and Nazi refugee Alexander Sebastian in Notorious; but my favorite of his was a rare lead as tragic composer Erique Claudin in the lavish Phantom of the Opera. Great actor https://t.co/W1jn8oES7L
