Last year saw Scouting America reach more than 1 million youth, instilling them with the values of the Scout Oath and Law to help prepare them for lives of impact and purpose. That encouraging message was delivered to our nation’s elected leaders in Washington, D.C. last month as part of Scouting America’s annual Report to the Nation. Scouts met with government officials and Scouting advocates to highlight the positive impacts Scouting is having on our nation’s youth.

In 2010, a catastrophic earthquake rocked Haiti, causing billions of dollars in damage and leaving more than 220,000 people dead – with some estimates soaring to more than 300,000 dead. It was one of the deadliest natural disasters in recorded history. Among those pulled from the rubble was 2-year-old Jamesly Jesse. He survived, but his family did not. For the next year, a makeshift hospital was his home. Jamesly was later adopted and now lives in Moweaqua, Ill., where he’s been a part of Troop 85.

Ever since Vittoria de Sica made Shoeshine, juvie prisons have gotten a bum rap in cinema, and Dog Pound (released today, 2010) is no exception. Three teen boys get sent to a Canadian detention center and soon beatings, rape and suicide pop up. Grim, well acted, painful to watch https://t.co/4mExRXj3gJ

I'm baffled that Crocodile Dundee (released today, 1986) got a best script nod, because it's basically just Paul Hogan doing his shtick. Sure, he does it well, but outside of pulling out a big knife (i.e., it's the Australian dudes who have big ones, ladies) this story is thin. https://t.co/hFRIPcgqcI

Was the mythology of the Old West ever more beautifully captured than in Shane (released today, 1953)? The enigmatic stranger with the halo over his head, the sinister man in black, the li'l boy needing a hero? Love it. Alan Ladd's best role, even if Jack Palance steals the show https://t.co/5eTykKUfqC
