    Taylor Wimpey has stated that it remains confident for 2025 despite issuing a warning over higher building costs from tax changes announced in the Autumn Budget. The housebuilder said it is still “well placed to play a part” in addressing the undersupply of UK housing, as it also expects its full year operating profit to be in line with previous guidance of £416m.

    Currys has lifted its profit outlook for the full year after the electrical goods retailer reported a strong period of trading in the 10 weeks to 4 January. The group is now expecting an adjusted profit before tax between £145m and £155m, ahead of previous guidance.

    Inkjet supplier Xaar has announced the appointment of Paul James as its permanent chief financial officer (CFO), effective immediately. James had been serving as interim CFO since 20 November 2024. Prior to this, he was group CFO at Biffa between September 2023 and October 2024, and group CFO at Genuit Group from March 2018 to September 2023. James has also held a number of senior positions at Currys, Inchcape and British American Tobacco.

    The UK’s rate of inflation slowed to 2.5% in the year to December, according to the latest figures published by the Office for National Statistics (ONS). This was down from 2.6% in the 12 months to November, as restaurants and hotels helped to slow price rises. On a monthly basis, however, the ONS data showed a 0.3% increase in inflation, although this was down from a 0.4% increase in December 2023.

    Twenty-three per cent of independent financial advisers (IFAs) are planning to introduce AI tools into their services to clients within the next 12 months, according to a new survey from Opinium. The findings by the research and insights agency follow the Prime Minister’s announcement of government plans to expand the uses of AI to boost growth and efficiency.
